Hair Loss
Hair loss can be scary and deeply personal. I have experienced post partum hair loss after my pregnancies, as well as from a thyroid disorder. Helping you find out the “why” of your hair loss and a personalized solution is my goal.
Some common types of hair loss are:
Telogen Effluvium (TE) - This is excessive shedding caused by a trigger typically 2-4 months previously. Triggers include: Child birth, thyroid, a change in diet, low iron or vitamin D, stressful event, hormonal changes, vaccines or sickness, change in medications and more.
Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA)- This is a genetic form of hair loss from either side of the family. Usually caused by DHT a hormone that clogs the hair follicle affecting both men and women.
Alopecia Areata (AA)- This is sudden patches of hair loss. Usually brought on by anxiety, stress, gut imbalance, poor nutrition or illness. The most common form of hair loss due to auto-immune disorders.
Traction Alopecia- This is caused by constant pulling of extensions or tight ponytails and braids. This can be reversible if caught in time.
Trichotillomania(hair pulling)- This is an impulse to pull your own hair. Can be triggered by stress or depression.
